The Great Adventure: Day Three: Mangonui

On Sunday we set off in the hire car to retrieve my sunglasses.  I should explain.  Pauline has a niece who has a holiday home near where Dora broke down.  While we were waiting for the tow truck on the Saturday evening we were looked after, fed and watered.  However I managed to leave my prescription sun glasses on the back seat of their car!  Anyway we wanted to visit Mangonui and Cable Bay so we took the opportunity.

New Zealand never ceases to amaze me.  For such a small population it seems to have an inordinately large number of its citizens who have lost their lives in the service of the Empire of which they were not, strictly speaking, a part.  And Vietnam?

The architecture of many of the buildings is very typical of New Zealand of a certain period and very attractive.  The town's supermarket is built out over the foreshore!

  1. These wooden houses, and also some you've shown on earlier blogposts, remind me of Swedish architecture, especially old seaside resorts.

  2. You got some good shots there, didn't you? The dark ominous clouds gathered above the war memorial seem very appropriate.
